Job Description

The Mica Initiative is a global coalition dedicated to establishing responsible mica supply chains in India and Madagascar.

Mica, a crucial resource with various applications, is mostly mined in India's states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh. The mineral extraction process in these regions is associated with issues like child labor and poor working conditions.

To address these concerns, RMI has developed the Global Workplace Standard (GWS) for mica processors and is working on establishing a standard for small to medium semi-mechanized mines.

The selected candidate will support RMI's Executive Team in strengthening the organization's activities in India and promoting sustainability among upstream supply chain actors in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.

The successful candidate will be based in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, and work closely with RMI's governance bodies, Executive team, members, and partners under the supervision of the Director of Programmes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conducting gap assessments of mica processors and mines versus RMI's GWS;
  • Supporting processors and mine owners in implementing corrective action plans;
  • Coordinating collective third-party audit protocols for RMI members;
  • Developing training content for auditors on RMI standards;
  • Facilitating in-person training sessions at processing and mining sites;
  • Analyzing audit data and building presentations for the team and members;
  • Closely monitoring and reporting on progress to the Executive team, RMI's governance bodies, and beneficiaries;
  • District-level advocacy in Rajasthan, including building and maintaining a network with local district governmental officers/authorities.
