System Reliability Specialist Job Description

As a seasoned System Reliability Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, latency, performance, and efficiency of our SaaS platform on Azure. Your primary objective will be to define and enforce reliability standards, lead high-impact projects, mentor engineers, and eliminate toil at scale.

The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of system reliability engineering principles and practices. They will be able to design and implement scalable, highly available systems that meet the needs of our users.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define and Enforce Reliability Standards: Develop and maintain reliable system designs, ensure compliance with industry best practices, and establish clear guidelines for system development and maintenance.
  • Lead High-Impact Projects: Drive strategic initiatives to improve system reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance user experience.
  • Mentor Engineers: Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, helping them develop their skills and expertise in system reliability engineering.
  • Eliminate Toil at Scale: Automate recurring tasks, build self-service runbooks, and create chatops tools to minimize manual effort and increase productivity.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • 12+ Years in Production Ops/Platform/SRE: Proven experience in system operations, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering.
  • 5+ Years on Azure: Strong knowledge of Azure services, including AKS, Front Door, App Gateway, API Management, VNets, NSGs, Private Link, Storage, Key Vault, Redis, Service Bus, and Event Hubs.
  • PostgreSQL Expertise: Deep operational expertise in PostgreSQL, including HA/DR, logical/physical replication, performance tuning, autovacuum strategy, partitioning, backup/restore testing, and connection pooling.
