At Republic World, we're seeking a skilled Backend SEO Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our digital media organization, you will be responsible for driving our technical SEO strategy and ensuring the success of our news website.

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Backend SEO Specialist who can help us improve our website's visibility, drive more traffic, and enhance our online presence. If you have a passion for search engine optimization and a strong background in technical SEO, we want to hear from you.

Estimated Salary

$80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Technical SEO Management: Conduct audits and identify areas of improvement for technical SEO, including site architecture, page speed, mobile optimization, and crawlability.
  2. Optimize Website Infrastructure: Optimize website infrastructure for better indexing and ranking by search engines.
  3. Monitor and Resolve Issues: Monitor and resolve issues related to robots.txt, XML sitemaps, and canonicalization.

Site Performance & Speed Optimization:

  1. Implement Strategies: Implement strategies to optimize website load speed, particularly for mobile users.
  2. Work with Developers: Work with developers to improve Core Web Vitals metrics (LCP, FID, CLS).
  3. Ensure Scalability: Ensure scalability and performance under high traffic conditions typical for news websites.

Keyword Research & Strategy:

  1. Work with Content Team: Work closely with the content team to identify high-value keywords for news-related searches.
  2. Prioritize SEO Efforts: Help prioritize SEO efforts based on keyword research and trends in the news cycle.
  3. Optimize On-Page Elements: Optimize on-page SEO elements, including titles, meta descriptions, headers, and URL structures.

Structured Data & Schema Markup:

  1. Implement Structured Data: Implement structured data (Schema.org) to enhance rich snippets, such as news articles, events, and how-to guides.
  2. Ensure Proper Usage: Ensure proper usage of AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) for news content.

Monitoring & Reporting:

  1. Use SEO Tools: Use SEO tools (Google Search Console, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, etc.) to track site performance, keyword rankings, and organic traffic.
  2. Provide Monthly Reports: Provide monthly performance reports with actionable insights and recommendations.
  3. Monitor Algorithm Changes: Proactively monitor for algorithm changes and adjust SEO strategies accordingly.

Collaboration & Training:

  1. Collaborate with Teams: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Editorial, Development, Marketing) to ensure that SEO best practices are incorporated at every stage of content creation and website development.
  2. Provide SEO Training: Provide SEO training and guidance to non-technical team members to improve overall SEO awareness across the company.

Staying Up-to-Date with SEO Trends:

  1. Stay Current with Trends: Stay current with the latest SEO trends, best practices, and algorithm updates, especially those related to news and media websites.
  2. Implement New Technologies: Implement new technologies and methodologies to improve site visibility and performance.

Requirements:

  • Proven Experience: Proven experience as a Backend SEO Specialist or similar role, ideally within the news or media industry.
  • Strong Technical SEO Skills: Strong technical SEO skills, including experience with site audits, on-page optimization, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, and canonical tags.
  • Proficiency in SEO Tools: Proficiency in SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or similar.
  • Experience with CMS: Experience working with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Drupal, or custom-built platforms.
  • Familiarity with Core Web Vitals: Familiarity with Core Web Vitals and mobile-first design principles.
  • Knowledge of Structured Data: Knowledge of structured data and implementing Schema Markup (especially NewsArticle schema).
  • Familiarity with AMP: Familiarity with AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) and optimizing content for mobile-first experiences.
  • Experience with Version Control: Experience with version control systems like Git and collaboration tools such as JIRA or Trello.
  • Strong Understanding of SEO Metrics: Strong understanding of SEO performance metrics, keyword research, and analytics.
