Retention Strategist Role Overview:

The role requires a strategic thinker to develop innovative retention strategies and drive user engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing retention campaigns to minimize churn.

  • At-Risk User Intervention (Churn Prevention):
    • Identify High-Risk Users: Collaborate with data analysts to leverage predictive models and conduct thorough analysis to identify users exhibiting signs of disengagement or high churn risk.
    • Conduct Surveys and Interviews: Engage directly with at-risk users to gather qualitative insights on root causes of dissatisfaction, leading to powerful hypotheses for campaign development.
    • Launch Targeted Campaigns: Develop and execute multi-channel campaigns (push notifications, in-app messages, email) triggered by at-risk behavior to re-engage users before they cancel.
  • Lapsed User Reactivation (Win-Back Strategy):
    • Develop Win-Back Strategies: Architect end-to-end plans for bringing back churned subscribers, including segmenting users based on past listening behavior and time since churn.
    • Craft Compelling Offers: Test a mix of creative offers and hyper-personalized content to find the perfect reason for users to return.
    • Continuously Test and Optimize: A/B test offers, messaging, and channels to build a playbook of cost-effective methods for reactivating different user cohorts.
  • Analytics & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Track Key Performance Indicators: Own and report on KPIs for retention domain: Churn Rate, Save Rate, Reactivation Rate, and campaign ROI, translating performance data into actionable insights for stakeholders.
    • Provide Data-Driven Feedback: Act as a key feedback loop to Product and Content teams, providing clear data and qualitative insights on user dissatisfaction drivers to inform roadmap prioritization.
    • Collaborate with Lifecycle Team: Work closely with the main lifecycle team to ensure seamless user experience, aligning 'save' messages with 'engagement' messages.
    Required Skills and Qualifications:
    • 4-7 years of focused experience in churn management, user reactivation, or save strategies within a B2C subscription or mobile app business.
    • Innovative Problem-Solver: Think creatively, challenge assumptions, and excel in building industry-leading churn-mitigation strategies.
    • Hands-On Campaign Execution: Direct experience building, launching, and optimizing campaigns using marketing automation platforms.
    • Strong Analytical Skills: Fluency in digging through data to find opportunities, proficiency in SQL for independent analysis, and experience with product analytics tools.
    • Experimenter's Mindset: Skilled at designing and interpreting A/B tests to get clear, actionable answers.
