Engineering Leader Opportunity

About this Role

We are a pioneering organization in the e-commerce industry, focusing on AI-native solutions. Over the next 12-18 months, we aim to transform complex problems into robust systems with real-world applications.

This is an hands-on individual contributor role, without initial management responsibilities. As our Engineering Leader, you will be responsible for building the foundation of our systems, creating reusable patterns as the team grows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • AI Platform Capabilities: Develop prompt orchestration, retrieval, function calling, streaming UX, and evaluation guardrails.
  • High-Throughput Content Processing: Establish ingestion pipelines, storage, delivery, with observability and cost control.
  • Identity, Privacy, and Trust: Implement consent-driven flows, signed tokens, rate limits, audit trails, and abuse prevention.
  • Data Platform: Normalize external data, model entities/relationships, and expose clean APIs.
  • Product Surfaces: Design and deploy Flutter apps (buyer/seller) and ReactJS dashboards with reliability and performance considerations.
  • Operational Excellence: Monitor, alert, automate tests, incident playbooks, and maintain a sane release cadence.

Tech Stack:

  • Backend: Java, Spring Boot, Python.
  • Database: PostgreSQL.
  • App: Flutter.
  • Admin & Seller Web: ReactJS.
  • Cloud: AWS (EC2, RDS, S3).
  • AI Tooling: OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, Vector Search (pgvector/Pinecone), LangChain/LlamaIndex.

Requirements:

  • 6-10+ years of experience building production systems as the primary engineer. Exceptional earlier-career engineers welcome with proof.
  • Hands-on Java and Spring Boot experience, plus comfort with Python.
  • Experience with Flutter or ReactJS in production environments.
  • Strong systems thinking: data models, performance budgets, failure handling.
  • Security and privacy instincts: PII handling, consent flows, audit trails.
  • Excellent written communication: clear documentation, READMEs, and runbooks.

Career Path & Title:

Start as Head of Engineering. Over time, choose your track:

  • Principal/Distinguished IC (maximizing technical leverage), or
  • CTO/VP Eng (when a team exists and needs leadership).

Meaningful ESOP. We are biased toward outsized ownership for outsized builders. 4-year vest (1-year cliff); accelerated vesting possible for milestone-based outcomes.
