Job Overview:

The System Administrator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of IBM i (AS/400) systems. This position demands exceptional technical expertise, strategic thinking, and meticulous attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:
  • System Monitoring: Continuously monitor system performance, resource utilization (CPU, memory, disk), and job queues to proactively identify potential bottlenecks and errors.
  • Error Resolution: Swiftly diagnose and resolve system issues to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
  • System Maintenance: Regularly perform diagnostics and performance tuning to maintain optimal system health.
Job Scheduling & Automation:
  • Batch Job Automation: Utilize IBM i Job Scheduler (WRKJOBSCDE) to automate batch jobs and system tasks, streamlining processes and improving efficiency.
  • Critical Process Execution: Ensure timely execution of critical business processes by coordinating with application teams and optimizing job dependencies and scheduling windows.
Backup & Recovery:
  • Backup Strategies: Develop and implement comprehensive backup strategies using SAVSYS, SAVLIB, SAVOBJ, and IFS backups to safeguard system data and prevent loss.
  • Multi-Tier Backup Plans: Implement daily incremental, weekly full library, and monthly full system backups using BRMS (Backup, Recovery & Media Services) for automated media tracking and recovery operations.
Security & User Management:
  • User Administration: Administer user profiles, access permissions, and security policies to ensure secure and compliant environments.
  • Auditing: Conduct regular audits to verify compliance with internal and external standards, maintaining a high level of security and integrity.
Software & System Updates:
  • Operating System Upgrades: Install and patch the IBM i operating system and related software to maintain optimal performance and security.
  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors for software upgrades and issue resolution, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruptions.
Capacity Planning & Documentation:
  • Capacity Forecasting: Analyze system growth trends and recommend hardware/software upgrades to meet evolving business needs.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding.
