Job Title: Climate Adaptation Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Climate Adaptation Specialist to join our team in promoting sustainable development and climate resilience.

Description

The Climate Adaptation Specialist will play a critical role in supporting national governments in developing and implementing effective climate adaptation strategies. This includes integrating climate adaptation priorities into national frameworks, conducting vulnerability and risk assessments, and applying climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of climate change impacts, adaptation measures, and related policies and mechanisms. They will be able to identify and size adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates, as well as evaluate techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources.

In addition to technical expertise, the Climate Adaptation Specialist must have excellent communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills to effectively engage stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced professional to contribute to the design of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems and provide policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.

Required Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), particularly in developing country contexts.
  • Proficiency in conducting Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • A strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Global Environment Facility (GEF), and bilateral donor programs.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
Preferred Attributes
  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development.
  • Background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches.
  • Ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning.
  • Skilled in translating technical analysis into policy guidance and investment strategies.
