Production Manager Job Description

To lead and manage the end-to-end production process of bus body structures, ensuring timely delivery, high-quality standards, cost efficiency, and compliance with safety and regulatory norms.

This role is critical in driving operational excellence, team development, and continuous improvement across the production line. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.
  • Ensuring optimal utilization of manpower, machinery, and materials.
  • Monitoring KPIs such as JPH (Jobs Per Hour), OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and downtime.
  • Quality assurance, ensuring adherence to dimensional accuracy, fit & finish, and welding standards.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering and at least 15 years of experience in automotive production. They should also have domain expertise in Bus/Coach Body Building, BIW, Assembly, and EV Certifications. Additionally, they should possess knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, and ISO/TS. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production planning & execution of bus structures.
  • Developing and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.
  • Ensuring optimal utilization of manpower, machinery, and materials.
  • Monitoring KPIs such as JPH (Jobs Per Hour), OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and downtime.
  • Quality assurance, ensuring adherence to dimensional accuracy, fit & finish, and welding standards.
  • Collaborating with QA teams to resolve line-level quality issues.
  • Driving root cause analysis and corrective actions for defects.
  • Process Improvement - Leading Kaizen, Six Sigma, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Team Leadership, Managing and mentoring production supervisors and line staff.
  • Conducting skill gap analysis and organizing training programs.
  • Fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • New Product Integration, Coordinating with R&D and technical services for new model launches.
  • Inventory & Material Coordination, Liaising with supply chain and warehousing for timely material availability.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Automobile Engg
  • Experience: 15-20 years in automotive production
  • Domain expertise: Bus/Coach Body Building, BIW, Assembly, EV Certifications (Optional): Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, ISO/TS
