India's mica industry is a vital resource used globally due to its unique properties and versatility. The mineral has a wide range of applications, including cosmetics, automotive coatings, metallurgy, electronics, batteries, plastics, and oil extraction. India is recognized as the largest exporter of mica, with 40% of global volumes mined in Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh.
The Responsible Mica Initiative (RMI) is a coalition established to promote responsible practices in the mica supply chain. RMI's work focuses on developing and implementing program pillars that establish responsible workplace standards, a legal framework for the mica sector, and empower workers and local communities.
RMI has developed the Global Workplace Standard (GWS) for mica processors and is working on establishing a standard for small to medium semi-mechanized mines. Today, RMI has over 100 members who are major players in the cosmetics, paints, automotive brands, and suppliers sectors, as well as internationally recognized NGOs.
To support RMI's growth in India and strengthen its support to upstream supply chain actors in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, we seek a highly motivated candidate for the position of 'Workplace Standard Auditor & Trainer'. The successful candidate will be based in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, and will work closely with RMI's governance bodies, Executive team, members, and partners under the supervision of the Director of Programmes.
The Workplace Standard Auditor & Trainer will support the Executive Team with the following key objectives:
- Conduct gap assessments of India mica processors and mica mines versus RMI's Global Workplace Standard (GWS) and the forthcoming RMI mining standard
- Support processors and mine owners in implementing corrective action plans and follow up on their progress in terms of compliance with regards to RMI workplace and due diligence standards;
- Coordinate collective third-party audit protocol for RMI members, in collaboration with RMI's Executive team;
- Liaise with RMI accredited external auditing companies on a regular basis;
- Develop training content for auditors on RMI standards and conduct online or face-to-face training sessions related to responsible workplace standards at processing and mining sites;
- Perform quality checks on audit reports; and analyze audit data and build presentations for the team and members.
The Workplace Standard Auditor & Trainer will also perform district-level advocacy in Rajasthan by building and maintaining a network with local district governmental officers and authorities, updating them on RMI's progress, planned activities, and challenges.
