Electrical Design Lead

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Lead to lead electrical building services designs for Railway Stations and other railway buildings.

This role involves working individually or as part of a team to prepare, coordinate, and monitor projects from conception to completion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design low voltage reticulation and distribution systems (230/400Volt) including UPS sources;
  • Operate industry-standard software to produce design for low voltage systems, selecting cable types, protective devices, and self-checking results;
  • Design general lighting systems;
  • Design emergency lighting systems;
  • Good working knowledge of different lighting types and sources, including LED types;
  • Operate industry-standard lighting design software for designing general and emergency lighting systems;
  • Design cable management systems (CMS), including trunking, tray, and conduits, with CMS sizing calculations and self-checking results;
  • Presentation of design onto schematic and 2D layout drawings;
  • Use industry-standard software to model MEP services in 3D, including Cable Management Systems, Pipework, Ductwork, etc., generating 2D sections from 3D models;
  • Understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and working within a Common Data Environment;
  • Supervise and verify designers' work to meet project requirements;
  • Interpret client specifications in English for developing designs;
  • Operate Microsoft Office package, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
Mandatory Skills:
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Qualifications meeting the requirements for Chartership with a UK Engineering Institution;
  • Qualifications in BS standards;
  • CMS Design, Load calculations, Cable sizing, transformer sizing, LV Design, Single Line drawings, etc.
  • Multi-disciplinary design coordination;
  • Extensive experience in rail station environments and good working knowledge of Network Rail, TfL & LUL standards;
  • Experience in contributing to electrical design on multidisciplinary projects and knowledge of rail design assurance processes;
  • Good knowledge of project lifecycle stages – LUL, GRIP, and RIBA;
  • Competent in producing or modifying CAD drawings using an industry-standard CAD system;
  • Experience in electrical design in the rail environment;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A proven track record in designing railway infrastructure projects;
  • British Chartered Engineer status or equivalent;
  • Membership to an accredited engineering body;
  • Technical software proficiency, such as IES, HAP, Hevacomp, and manufacturer's software;
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project proficiency;
  • Fluent English with excellent technical terminology understanding;
  • Raising technical competence within teams;
  • Implementing delivery and quality measurement processes;
  • Promoting technical excellence in projects;
  • Undertaking technical reviews, peer reviews, checks, and contributing to design;
  • Developing positive professional relationships with colleagues;
  • Ensuring Health & Safety embedded in work practices;
  • Meeting statutory and regulatory requirements within designs;
  • Participating in Project meetings, team meetings, disseminating information within the team, and communicating with other teams;
  • Identifying and acting on potential risk issues and following company commercial and contracting processes;
  • Managing delegated tasks to ensure deadlines are met and flagging resourcing concerns to team leaders;
  • Completing timesheets accurately ahead of weekly deadlines;
