Intellectual Property Role OverviewJob Summary

This role entails leading the management of our intellectual property portfolio.

  • To lead and empower a team of IP professionals in managing the growing intellectual property portfolio.
  • To enforce IP processes to ensure optimal protection.
  • To work closely with cross-functional teams to develop effective strategies for product development and protection.

The successful candidate will provide strategic advice on licensing agreements, research collaborations, and litigation activities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Portfolio Management: Develop and manage the growing IP portfolio.
  2. Process Enforcement: Enforce IP processes to ensure the optimal and timely protection of intellectual property as well as protecting third-party partner interests.
  3. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Global IP Head, Research and Development, and Portfolio teams to identify patentable inventions, draft patents, and monitor scientific and patent publications.
  4. Strategy Development: Devise and manage the most effective product development strategy for the portfolio.
  5. Invention Identification: Identify patentable inventions and provide guidance regarding the patentability of inventions under review.
  6. Patent Drafting: Draft patents, freedom to operate reports, infringement and validity analysis, risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  7. IP Filings: File and prosecute inventive solutions to build significant wealth of intellectual property.
  8. Scientific Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate third party scientific and patent publications.
  9. Strategic Advice: Provide IP-related inputs to support legal agreements and negotiations.
  10. Litigation Support: Partner with other legal and business functions to provide strategic advice and strategy in connection with strategic M&A transactions, licensing agreements, research collaborations, adverse proceedings, and litigation activities.
  11. Record Maintenance: Maintain appropriate record architecture and content of the Company's inventions, know-how, trade secrets and registered intellectual property.
Requirements
  1. Education: PhD or a Post-graduate in Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Sciences or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  2. Desirable Qualification: Additional specialization in Intellectual Property.
  3. Work Experience: At least 13+ years in a reputable Global Pharmaceutical company with team handling skills.
  4. Skills: Experience in product IP clearances, patent drafting and prosecution, and ancillary areas in a pharmaceutical organization. Litigation, litigation support, and licensing experience are most desired.
  5. Personal Skills: Well organized, detail-oriented and a team-player capable of working in a deadline dictated environment.
  6. Language Skills: Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
