Strategic IT Manager

The Ahmedabad University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced IT Manager to oversee and manage the university's information technology systems and services. This role involves strategic planning, coordination, and implementation of IT initiatives that support the academic and administrative functions of the university.
Key Responsibilities
- IT Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with the university's goals and objectives. Conduct regular assessments of IT needs and recommend improvements or upgrades. Plan and manage IT budgets, ensuring cost-effective and efficient use of resources.
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of IT infrastructure. Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of network systems, servers, and databases. Manage backup, recovery, and business continuity planning.
- User Support and Training: Provide technical support and guidance to faculty, staff, and students. Develop and deliver training programs to enhance IT proficiency across the university.
- Software and Systems Management: Evaluate, select, and implement software solutions that meet the needs of the university. Oversee the development and maintenance of university websites, intranet, and other digital platforms. Ensure software licenses are up-to-date and comply with legal requirements.
- Security and Compliance: Develop and enforce IT security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Monitor and respond to security incidents and breaches.
- Project Management: Lead IT projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. Coordinate with various departments to understand their IT requirements and provide suitable solutions. Prepare project documentation, including plans, timelines, and status reports.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with external IT vendors and service providers. Negotiate contracts and service agreements to ensure favourable terms and conditions. Monitor vendor performance to ensure service levels are met.
- Leadership and Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and develop IT staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and support. Encourage professional development and continuous learning within the IT team.
Requirements
- Education industry knowledge preferred to align technology-related decisions with the University's goals.
- Experience with educational technology platforms and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Must be very strong in the entire spectrum of information technology implementation systems & services with immense hands-on experience.
- Demonstrate technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies particularly relevant to large-scale University systems and operations. Familiarity with cloud computing services and virtualisation technologies.
- Manages Information Technology Services staff and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of information technology.
- Highly collaborative style, exemplar interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Effectively manage and able to execute both operating and project budgets.
- IT management experience in a complex multi-site University setting.
- Must have Good English communication, writing, and presentation skills.
- Qualification: BE/ MCA/ MSc Computer Science with years of relevant industry experience.
- Expertise in both technology and services in the Education domain will be preferred.
