Job Title: Senior Cassandra Database Administrator

We are seeking a seasoned professional to fill the role of Senior Cassandra Database Administrator. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and administering high-availability databases.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to manage both traditional SQL-based and NoSQL databases. Key responsibilities include managing mission-critical databases, configuring, administrating, monitoring, security management, performance optimization, replication, troubleshooting, and backup of traditional SQL databases (MySQL/Percona) and NoSQL databases (Cassandra/MongoDB).

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teams to design, maintain, and administer high-availability databases.
  • Manage database configuration, administration, monitoring, security management, performance optimization, replication, troubleshooting, and backup.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade nodes in high-availability customer production clusters.
  • Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and reporting in the production environment.
  • Contribute to evolving infrastructure design and architecture.
  • Work with product engineering teams to ensure operations standards are observed and resource impacts for upcoming product deployments are determined.
  • Develop processes, tools, and documentation in support of production operations.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in designing, maintaining, and administering NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB).
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in designing, maintaining, and administering traditional SQL-based databases (MySQL, MariaDB, Percona).
  • Experience managing Kafka message bus infrastructures is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated track record of leveraging them to evangelize technical best practices.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Experience with industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management, and working in public clouds and traditional colocation datacenters.
  • Experience using Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or analogous configuration management systems.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience required.
