Job Description

The Conventional Mortgage Reviewer is a crucial professional in the mortgage loan process. Responsible for reviewing, conditionally approving, and underwriting mortgage loans according to established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviews and analyzes mortgage loan applications to ensure eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory guidelines to minimize risk factors.
  • Reviews all required loan data, reports, and inspections to verify the collateral's acceptability to investors and the company.
  • Knowledge of Lending & Underwriting Guidelines | Credit & Income Analysis | Cash Flow Analysis | Risk Assessment | Loan-to-Value Ratios | Debt-to-Income Ratios.
  • Reviews initial application - Verifies loan, property, borrowers' information with other available documents - Verifies borrower's monthly income and expenses - Verifies other relevant sections.
  • Reviews all documents related to borrower's Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital.
  • Calculates asset requirements for closing and reserve purposes for the transaction (as per guideline).
  • Responsible for making independent decisions regarding acceptance and risk of loans according to HUD, investor, and management guidelines.
  • Provides final approval for underwriting mortgage loans.
  • Completes all required paperwork and forms in a timely and accurate manner; prepares required forms.
  • SIGN OFF conditions in a timely manner set by management.
  • Works with staff and management to find solutions on escalated loans.
  • May be requested to make recommendations for improving internal audit policies and practices.
  • Manages loans using all functions of Encompass.
  • Effectively communicates underwriting decisions with processors and advisors.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service and communication with other departments.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree or Equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in conventional/govt end-to-end underwriting.
  • Well-versed in all 4Cs of Underwriting (Asset, Income, Credit, and Collateral).
