Category Strategist – General Merchandise

The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, managing, and driving the GM category to deliver strong business performance in line with company objectives.

  • Category Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive category strategy for General Merchandise, aligned with customer needs, market trends, and business goals.
  • Pricing & Promotions: Design and execute pricing and promotional strategies to maximize sales and profitability, while maintaining a competitive edge.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct thorough market analysis and track category performance, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Buying & Vendor Management: Build and maintain relationships with vendors/suppliers, negotiating terms and conditions to ensure mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Negotiation & Partnership: Foster strong negotiation and partnership skills to drive value from vendor relationships.
  • Supplier Relationships: Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships, ensuring reliable supply and innovation in product range.
  • Merchandising & Assortment: Design and implement product assortment strategies, including core, seasonal, and promotional lines, to meet customer needs and drive sales.
  • In-Store Presentation: Collaborate with visual merchandising teams to create engaging and effective in-store displays.
  • Inventory Management: Optimize inventory levels and management processes to ensure the right product mix is available across stores and channels.
  • Financial & Business Management: Oversee the financial performance of the General Merchandise category, driving margin improvement through effective sourcing and cost negotiations.
  • Cost Optimization: Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives to drive efficiency and profitability.
  • Sales & Inventory: Analyze sales and inventory data to inform product placement, pricing, and promotional strategies.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain Management and Marketing, to drive category success.
  • Promotional Campaigns: Partner with marketing teams to develop and execute promotional campaigns that drive sales and customer engagement.
  • Store Operations: Collaborate with store operations teams to ensure seamless execution of category initiatives.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and category management tools, with ability to learn new systems quickly.
