About the Opportunity:

This position involves a thorough review of mortgage files submitted to underwriting, requiring a detailed analysis of income, debt, and assets.

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of loan files, including income verification, asset evaluation, and credit analysis
  • Utilize loan operating systems to ensure accurate data entry and management
  • Apply underwriting guidelines in accordance with client requirements, utilizing automated underwriting engines (AUS) or manual guidelines
  • Verify loan documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Identify and address red flags or alerts
  • Make informed loan decisions and issue condition files accordingly
  • Review and approve conditions for loan file completion and compliance
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external clients
  • Stay up-to-date on client and investor requirements
  • Address pre- and post-closing issues related to underwriting
  • Support Processors/Loan Officers in understanding underwriting decisions and conditions
  • Work effectively in high-pressure environments while delivering outstanding customer service

Responsibilities:

  • Be prepared to work beyond standard hours, as needed

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in conventional mortgage loan underwriting

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of income calculations, tax returns, credit report analysis, and red flag identification
  • Fundamental understanding of appraisal principles and ability to recognize ineligible properties
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of GSE underwriting guidelines and automated underwriting engines
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong time management capabilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment
  • Collaborative team player with a willingness to adapt
  • Proficient in multiple systems and platforms
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic security environment
  • NMLS-MLO Licensure preferred
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours when necessary
