Job Title: Climate Adaptation Specialist

About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Climate Adaptation Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in climate adaptation, resilience planning, and sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement climate adaptation strategies that align with national development goals and international frameworks.
  • Conduct climate vulnerability and risk assessments across sectors, including agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems.
  • Apply climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
  • Identify and size adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate the techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and map relevant financing sources.
  • Support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting international mechanisms.
  • Foster inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups.
  • Align adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals and national development plans.
  • Contribute to the design of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework requirements.
  • Draft technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Provide policy recommendations that strengthen climate resilience and adaptation integration.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • An advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating NDCs, LT-LEDS, or NAPs, particularly in developing country contexts.
  • Proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections.
  • A strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills.
Preferred Attributes
  • Prior experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development.
  • A background in climate and sustainability consulting or advisory roles.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation, nature-based solutions, and coastal resilience approaches.
  • The ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning.
