Mortgage Origination Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned professional to lead our mortgage origination efforts. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in residential mortgage loans and refinances, with a proven track record of ensuring compliance with lender underwriting guidelines and federal/state regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage loan originators, including attendance, training, hiring, recruiting, and performance reviews.
  • Have working knowledge and hands-on expertise in RESPA/TRID review and other federal, state, and industry compliance requirements.
  • Interface professionally with title companies, clients, real estate agents, mortgage loan officers, and mortgage lenders to ensure successful closes.
  • Elevate service levels for customers by assisting in the application process, overseeing all mortgage loan closings, and completing all post-closing requirements quickly.
  • Ensure future salability and quality control of residential mortgage loans and refinances by adhering to all lender underwriting guidelines and federal and state regulations.
  • Develop ongoing and initial coaching and training to new and existing staff.
  • Use quality assurance data to build improvement in overall lender decision making.
  • Identify gaps and document processes and procedures.
  • Build a reporting suite for clear communication of performance to team members, peers, management, and Executive Leadership.
  • Monitor and oversee loan production pipeline.
  • Meet all KPIs for the department.
  • Prepare and deliver action plans or correction actions when individual metrics are not met.
  • Communicate key initiatives, deliverables, and expectations across team members, peers, managers, and Executive Leadership.
  • Manage administrative tasks of the department (timecards, schedules, vacations, performance reviews).
  • Continually review processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify strategic and technology improvements.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 years of mortgage origination experience, including post-closing review and correspondent experience in US Home Loan products.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage industry regulations, with expertise in TRID guidelines.
  • Management experience in human resources or as an operations manager is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good supervision, organization, and math skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment skills essential to make quick decisions within written policy and standard operating procedures.
