Job Title: GIS Mapping Specialist

Overview

We are seeking an experienced GIS Mapping Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support for our GIS mapping applications, troubleshooting issues, and empowering users to make the most of our geospatial tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide timely technical support to GIS mapping application users via phone, email, or ticketing systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to GIS software, data layers, and functionality.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops on GIS features, best practices, and data management.
  • Create and maintain user guides, FAQs, and technical documentation for self-service support.
  • Assist in data acquisition, processing, and integration while ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Configure GIS mapping applications and develop custom scripts, tools, and workflows for enhanced functionality.
  • Test and validate GIS software updates, patches, and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with GIS developers, analysts, and project managers to deliver solutions.
  • Gather feedback from users to recommend improvements and enhance GIS services.
  • Stay updated on GIS trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously enhance support capabilities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's is a plus).
  • 5+ years of experience providing technical support for GIS mapping applications.
  • Strong understanding of GIS principles, spatial analysis, and mapping concepts.
  • Proficiency with GIS software (Arc GIS, QGIS, or similar).
  • Familiarity with geospatial data formats (shapefiles, Geo JSON, KML) and coordinate systems.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail for troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Experience with Python or JavaScript scripting for GIS automation/customization is a plus.
  • Knowledge of web mapping technologies (Leaflet, Open Layers) and GIS server platforms (Arc GIS Server, Geo Server) is preferred.
