Subtitle Editor Job Description

Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Subtitle Editor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent editing and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Editing and proofreading English subtitles for audio and grammatical accuracy
  • Footnoting cultural references and expressions as an aid to translators
  • Performing audio fidelity quality checks to ensure subtitles match the audio
  • Localizing language and spelling for British and U.S. English releases
  • Manipulating English files using proprietary software, including preparing scripts and running conversions between formats
  • Staying abreast of changing studio requests and ensuring the timely delivery of projects
  • Identifying and reporting problems as soon as they occur when working on files
  • Communicating effectively with colleagues and managers

Requirements:

  • Exceptional audio sensitivity – ability to understand spoken American English
  • Broad cultural knowledge and wide range of interests
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint
  • A positive attitude towards co-workers and superiors
