Senior Database Administrator: DMSII Systems

Job Overview:

As a seasoned database administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and integrity of our DMSII databases. This involves installation, configuration, and ongoing administration to meet business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, configuration, and management of DMSII databases.
  • Monitoring database performance, space utilization, and availability on Unisys mainframes.
  • Set, subset, and index management for efficient data access.
  • Database backup, journaling, and recovery procedures.
  • Supporting schema changes and performing database reorganizations as required.
  • Collaborating with application and system teams to troubleshoot performance or access issues.
  • Participating in disaster recovery testing and ensuring compliance with backup policies.
  • Maintaining security, audit trails, and user access controls.
  • Documenting DBA processes, configurations, and recovery procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Unisys DMSII database administration.
  • Knowledge of DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools.
  • Understanding of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery.
  • Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other Unisys mainframe application integration.
  • Knowledge of batch jobs, JCL equivalents, and operational support tasks.
  • Basic experience in ODBC/JDBC integration with DMSII (nice to have).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of proven experience as a DMSII DBA or Unisys Mainframe DBA.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work in rotational support shifts (if required).
