Job Description

As a seasoned Process Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the development of cutting-edge process design solutions for Flow Chemistry & Batch Process applications. This high-impact opportunity is perfect for an early-career engineer looking to grow within a globally distributed pharma project team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and optimizing flow chemistry and batch processes for scale-up and commercial manufacturing.
  • Performing process design calculations (heat & mass balance, reaction kinetics, equipment sizing, pressure drop, mixing, and scale-up parameters).
  • Preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables such as Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Supporting process safety assessments (HAZOP, risk analysis, safety studies).
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (process chemists, mechanical, instrumentation, and analytical teams) to ensure robust process design.
  • Evaluating new technologies and proposing innovative solutions for continuous manufacturing & flow chemistry applications.
  • Providing process engineering support during pilot plant and commercial scale-up.
  • Working with procurement & vendors for equipment selection and specification preparation.
  • Ensuring compliance with GMP, regulatory guidelines, and EHS standards in process design.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor's/Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5–7 years of proven experience in process design engineering within the pharmaceutical/chemical industry.
  • Hands-on expertise in flow chemistry and batch process design.
  • Strong knowledge of process design tools and calculations (heat/mass transfer, reaction engineering, hydraulics).
  • Experience in preparing and interpreting BFDs, PFDs, P&IDs.
  • Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of process safety (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA) is desirable.
