Network Engineer Job Description

The network engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing computer networks. This includes setting up and maintaining local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and the Internet.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Configuration and Troubleshooting: Configure, manage, and troubleshoot L2/L3 switches, including ACLs, QoS policies, and firmware upgrades.
  • SD-WAN Management: Manage and maintain SD-WAN gateways, firewalls, and load balancers, with hands-on experience in Palo Alto Panorama.
  • DHCP and DNS Management: Configure and troubleshoot DHCP and DNS environments.
  • Wireless Infrastructure Management: Update and maintain wireless infrastructure tools like Aruba Central, Airwave, and ClearPass.
  • Wireless Network Support: Support and troubleshoot wireless networks, including WAPs and controllers.
  • Cisco CUCM Administration: Administer Cisco CUCM and manage VoIP phones (certification preferred).
  • Network Performance Monitoring: Monitor and manage network performance using tools like SolarWinds (NPM, NCM, NTA, NAM).
  • Field Dispatch Coordination: Participate in field dispatch coordination and transition management activities.
  • Incident Handling: Perform incident logging, issue triage, resolution, and escalation handling for ISPs and infrastructure issues.
  • Vulnerability Management: Conduct vulnerability and patch management for network infrastructure.
  • Backup Configuration and Documentation: Manage backup configurations, network documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • ITIL Compliance: Adhere to ITIL practices for Asset, Change, and Incident Management.

Qualifications and skills required for this position include:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in enterprise network operations.
  • Hands-on Experience: Proven hands-on experience with Palo Alto, Aruba, and Cisco networking equipment.
  • Strong Expertise: Strong expertise in network security, monitoring, and wireless network infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of SolarWinds: Working knowledge of SolarWinds for network monitoring and automation.
  • Familiarity with ITIL: Familiarity with ITIL processes for network service management.
  • Problem-solving and Communication Skills: Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
