Job Title: z/OS Messaging Specialist

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced messaging expert to administer and support enterprise-level messaging infrastructure on the z/OS platform. The ideal candidate will ensure a secure, reliable, and high-performing environment that supports various applications and batch processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain messaging software and components on z/OS.
  • Manage messaging objects including queue managers, queues, channels, and cluster configurations.
  • Monitor messaging performance and availability, applying tuning techniques to optimize throughput and reduce latency.

Upgrade Support

  • Plan and execute upgrades of messaging software and components on z/OS.
  • Conduct compatibility checks, regression testing, and rollback planning.
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to ensure minimal disruption during upgrades.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and version control records for upgrades.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and manage messaging security protocols including encryption and access control.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards for secure messaging environments.

System Programming & Integration

  • Support integration of messaging with z/OS subsystems including CICS, DB2, and IMS.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX, JCL, or Assembler for messaging operations.

Disaster Recovery & High Availability

  • Design and implement messaging Queue Sharing Groups and RESLEVEL configurations for high availability.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning, testing, and failover strategies for messaging environments.

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with developers, infrastructure teams, and support staff to troubleshoot and resolve messaging-related issues.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing within the team.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with messaging software on z/OS.
  • Deep understanding of messaging architecture, configuration, and monitoring tools.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as COBOL, REXX, and JCL.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in hybrid team environments.
