Job Title

A Product Category Specialist will be responsible for managing the General Merchandise category to drive business performance and achieve strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a category strategy that aligns with customer needs, market trends, and company objectives.
  • Plan assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
  • Track and analyze category performance, market share, and competitor activity.
Buying & Vendor Management:
  • Identify, negotiate, and onboard vendors/suppliers for the GM category.
  • Negotiate terms including pricing, margins, credit, and delivery schedules.
  • Build strong partnerships with suppliers to ensure reliable supply and innovation in product range.
Merchandising & Assortment:
  • Design the product assortment, including core, seasonal, and promotional lines.
  • Ensure the right product mix is available across stores and channels (offline/online).
  • Work with the visual merchandising team to ensure effective in-store presentation.
Financial & Business Management:
  • Own the P&L of the General Merchandise category.
  • Drive margin improvement through effective sourcing and cost negotiations.
  • Monitor sales, inventory, and stock turnover, ensuring optimal stock levels.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with business acumen.
  • Negotiation and vendor management expertise.
  • Understanding of Indian hypermarket/retail landscape.
  • Customer-centric approach with ability to anticipate trends.
  • Strong planning and execution skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and category management tools.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Graduate/Postgraduate in Business Administration, Retail Management, or related field.
  • 6–10 years of experience in buying/category management, in General Merchandise or related categories.
  • Experience in hypermarket/large-format retail is a must.
  • Proven track record of handling P&L responsibility.
