Lead Well Planning Specialist

This is a key position for our organization that oversees the development of CBM (Coalbed Methane) wells. The Lead Well Planning Specialist will be responsible for ensuring technical integrity, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance in well design, planning, and execution.

The role involves leading the integration of subsurface understanding with drilling and completion technologies tailored for CBM fields. It drives well delivery from concept to execution readiness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Well Planning & Design:
    • Develop well plans for CBM wells, including location selection support.
    • Create well designs that align with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
    • Establish detailed Basis of Design (BoD), risk registers, and contingency plans.
    • Design completions that are fit-for-purpose and cost-optimized for CBM production.
  • Engineering & Cost Control:
    • Prepare drilling and completion Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) and monitor actual vs budget.
    • Assist in developing Scope of Work and technical specifications for Drilling & Well Completion equipment.
    • Select equipment and materials in collaboration with procurement and service vendors.
    • Evaluate and apply new CBM-relevant technologies.
    • Evaluate and monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with safety, contractual, procedural, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Support:
    • Provide real-time technical support during drilling, casing, cementing, and completions.
    • Conduct post-well reviews and implement lessons learned.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Work closely with subsurface teams for well targeting and zonal optimization.
    • Coordinate with HSE, land access, and surface facility teams to ensure alignment of well delivery schedule.
  • Regulatory & Compliance:
    • Ensure all well designs and activities comply with statutory regulations.
    • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Team Management & Leadership:
    • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff.
    • Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and service providers.
