Job Description

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing our databases to ensure optimal performance. You will analyze database issues, monitor database performance, and collaborate with other team members to manage production SQL-based and Cassandra/NoSQL databases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage mission-critical high transaction rate databases, including configuration, administration, monitoring, security management, performance optimization, replication, troubleshooting, and backup of both traditional SQL databases (MySQL/Percona) and NoSQL databases (Cassandra/MongoDB).
  • Install, configure, and upgrade nodes in high availability customer production clusters.
  • Manage an international 24x7, multi-site production infrastructure powering the services, including deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security.
  • Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, capacity planning and reporting in the production environment.
  • Contribute to the evolving design and architecture of reliable and scalable infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to ensure Operations standards are observed, determine resource impacts for upcoming product deployments, and ensure successful product rollouts.
  • Develop processes, tools, and documentation in support of production operations.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • At least 7 years of experience in the design, maintenance, and administration of NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB).
  • At least 6 years of experience in the design, maintenance, and administration of traditional SQL-based databases (MySQL, MariaDB, Percona).
  • Experience managing Kafka message bus infrastructures is a strong plus.
  • Experience automating management of systems & database using common scripting languages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated track record of leveraging them to evangelize technical best practices with databases/data intelligence platforms.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Experience with industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management, and working in both public clouds and traditional colocation datacenters.
  • Experience using Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or analogous configuration management systems.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience is required.
