Lead Database Administrator

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Database Administrator to join our team.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned database professional to lead and manage our PostgreSQL databases, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance with best practices.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7+ years of hands-on experience in production environments, with deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, architecture, and tuning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor PostgreSQL databases to ensure seamless operations, minimize downtime, and maintain data integrity.
  • Plan, execute, and troubleshoot major upgrades, cross-version, and cross-platform migrations with minimal disruption.
  • Maintain robust monitoring and alerts for database performance and security, leveraging advanced tools and procedures.
  • Diagnose and recover from cluster corruption using backup and replica systems to ensure business continuity.
  • Develop and implement scripts or scheduling tools (cron, pg_cron) to automate routine tasks and checks.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong expertise with HA and replication solutions (Patroni, repmgr).
  • Hands-on experience with PITR, disaster recovery, and cluster rebuilds.
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments, shell scripting, and automation.
  • Solid understanding of database security and compliance best practices.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience handling critical incidents.
  • Monitor and optimize performance, tune queries and indexes, manage vacuuming and bloat, implement pooling (PgBouncer), and maintain robust monitoring and alerts.

Familiarity with cloud-managed PostgreSQL services, AWS PostgreSQL services like RDS and Aurora, and connection pooling and proxy tools (PgBouncer, HAProxy) is a plus.
