Climate Adaptation Specialist Role

The Climate Adaptation Specialist will play a pivotal role in integrating climate adaptation priorities into national frameworks, ensuring alignment with the Paris Agreement and national development goals. This position requires strong analytical skills to conduct Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessments (CVRAs) across various sectors.

Key responsibilities include applying climate models and risk analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses. The specialist must identify and size adaptation measures with clear outcomes, implementation timelines, and cost estimates.

Another critical aspect is evaluating techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and mapping relevant financing sources. The Climate Adaptation Specialist will also support the preparation of funding proposals for climate adaptation, including those targeting international mechanisms.

Effective stakeholder engagement is crucial in this role, as the specialist will facilitate inclusive consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups. The position demands expertise in aligning adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development plans.

In addition, the specialist will contribute to designing Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) requirements.

Excellent communication and policy analysis skills are essential for drafting technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences. Key qualifications include an advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, or related discipline.

5+ years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields are required. Demonstrated involvement in developing or updating NDCs, LT-LEDS, or NAPs, particularly in developing country contexts, is necessary.

Proficiency in conducting CVRAs and translating findings into actionable strategies is essential. Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections is also required. Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis, cost estimation, and financing pathways is needed.

Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms such as GCF, GEF, and bilateral donor programs is advantageous. Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills are crucial for success in this role.
