Job Role:

The Legal Officer position at SRM AP University plays a pivotal role in ensuring the institution's legal integrity by providing expert legal counsel, managing litigation, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and advising on policy development.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Expert Legal Advice: Provide timely and accurate legal advice to senior management, ensuring the university adheres to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Contract Management: Draft, review, and vet legal documents, including Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and standard agreements with external parties.
  • Litigation Coordination: Coordinate with external legal advisors and standing counsels on court matters, preparing responses to grievances and attending court when necessary.
  • Policy Development: Monitor internal legal processes, update existing policies, and help formulate new ones.
  • Dispute Resolution: Serve as a member secretary for committees, such as the Committee Against Sexual Harassment, and handle internal disputes from a legal perspective.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in law (LLB or LLM) from a recognized institution with Bar Council registration.

EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • A minimum of six years' experience as an advocate or working in a legal department, preferably in education, demonstrating hands-on application of legal knowledge.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and drafting skills, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities. Knowledge of Telugu is essential.
