Executive Leadership Role: Director of Software Engineering

This position oversees business and technical outcomes, sets strategic direction for engineering teams, drives product vision, evaluates complex challenges, develops innovative solutions, establishes organizational roadmaps, and collaborates with key stakeholders. It involves ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and navigating ambiguity.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Leads and controls the delivery of business and technical outcomes across multiple projects and operational activities within a domain through technical leadership.
  2. Defines engineering health objectives that drive organization health, engineering best practices, and operational targets.
  3. Drives product and technical strategy with cross-functional leaders to deliver domain goals.
  4. Responsible for program delivery, establishing annual organizational goals, and ensuring performance and results impacting both their domain and potentially enterprise.
  5. Develops engineering strategy that translates into operational and tactical plans using groundbreaking methods to think beyond existing solutions.
  6. Sets the tri-annual roadmap for a domain-level organization and defines the operational strategy for a domain based on defined requirements.
  7. Evaluates key business challenges and completes complex, ambiguous initiatives with impact across engineering, directing the development of new or innovative solutions while dealing with high levels of technical domain-level ambiguity.
  8. Collaborates with direct team members, managers in the org, stakeholders, managers in other orgs, external partners, and business stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years management experience.
  • Solid track record of overachieving engineering and platform delivery and scaling targets.
  • Experience in architecture, design, and implementation of financial systems/platforms such as core banking, treasury, tax, FP&A, compliance.
  • Experience in payments, FinTech, financial services industry required.
  • Passion for leading and developing direct reports, providing guidance, consultation, and opportunities towards improving their professional skill set, ability to lead and influence direct reports remotely.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage a large, diverse set of to-do's, vigorously prioritize, stay on top of multiple work streams, monitor progress, hold owners accountable.
  • Communication style motivated by brevity and purposeful outcomes with experience interfacing with executives.
  • Experience in building and leading a geographically distributed team.
  • Payments/compliance/eCommerce/banking industry experience required.
