Compliance Expert for International Trade

Ashland seeks a skilled Compliance Expert for International Trade to join our Supply Chain team in Mumbai, Maharashtra. As part of this significant role within the Company and the Supply Chain function, you will report to Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive global trade compliance and work collaboratively with peers across four countries. Your primary responsibilities include reviewing and interpreting regulatory requirements to manage import-export compliance, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations, and serving as a liaison on matters related to import-export compliance.

You will be accountable for taking necessary steps to ensure all levels of the organization are aware of Ashland's commitment to comply with government regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will work on a global team to support Ashland's global trade compliance initiatives around the world.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Responsible for Harmonized System (HS) Classification for new materials, extended materials, and samples, as well as managing GTS HS code entry
  • Responsible for reclassification according to tariff changes for each country, reviewing HS classification, and managing classification changes
  • Collaborate with the Global Classification Council to address HS classification disputes, discuss complex classifications, and manage changes
  • Responsible for material qualification for Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and conduct annual compliance reviews
  • Determine the country of origin and maintain system updates
  • Respond to Customs inquiries regarding classification, price, country of origin, and other topics, as well as participate in Customs audits and serve as liaison with Customs for India and other South Asia countries as assigned
  • Audit import entries and export declarations, report findings, and work with the team to analyze root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Provide training to the organization on regulation, programs, procedures, and trade compliance-related topics
  • Understand import/export requirements for supported countries (India and others in South Asia) and provide expertise on import and export compliance questions, solve compliance issues, and work on improvements for identified gaps
  • Monitor regulatory developments, interpret regulatory requirements, evaluate impacts, recommend actions/changes/processes required, and effectively communicate
  • Support the import and export process, establish, standardize, or improve processes to eliminate risks and ensure compliance
  • Manage duty conditions for accruals with Ashland's ERP system
  • Evaluate license/registration requirements related to trade compliance for new business, maintain and support applications for required licenses as identified
  • Offer daily support to supply chain and commercial unit inquiries
  • Identify benefits/duty savings opportunities through tariff strategies, utilization of FTAs, and other trade programs/policies, and maintain programs
  • Support monitoring of Ashland GTS system for compliance blocks, SPL, legal control, and sanctions as needed
  • Act as the global Duty designee to gather and report on Duty savings and spend globally

To qualify for this role, you must possess:

  • At least 5 years' experience in trade compliance, import/export compliance, or equivalent area
  • Demonstrated responsible and ethical behavior at all times
  • The ability to drive greater value through understanding the business, making complex decisions, and creating new approaches

A competitive salary range for this position is ₹900,000 - ₹1,300,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. This includes a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for growth and development.
