Job Description

As a seasoned category manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the FMCG portfolio for your assigned region. Your primary focus will be on managing a team of 8-10 members to buy and promote National & Regional FMCG brands across approximately 20-30 stores.

You will lead classroom and On-The-Job training sessions to groom and develop your team members, while also coordinating with various teams, including Store Operations, Supply Chain, core Purchase, and Central purchase to maximize sales and ensure optimal promotions in stores.

Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting regular meetings with key vendor partners to negotiate contracts, forecast demand, and discuss category development initiatives.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive sales growth and optimize inventory levels.
  • Manage relationships with vendors to secure the best possible deals and maintain competitive pricing.
  • Ensure seamless supply chain operations from vendor to DC to stores, minimizing delays and maximizing efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a high-performing team to achieve sales targets and exceed expectations.
  2. Developing and implementing effective marketing strategies to increase brand visibility and drive sales.
  3. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and implement process changes.
  4. Analyzing market trends and competitor activity to inform strategic decisions.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A graduate or postgraduate degree in business administration (MBA) with at least 10 years of experience in FMCG sales.
  • Proven track record of managing similar roles, with a strong background in general trade and category management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and make informed decisions.

Other requirements include:

  • Must be willing to travel regularly, both within the region and nationally.
  • Knowledge of local languages and locations is essential.
  • Experience in managing large teams and developing talent is highly desirable.
