Purchase Manager Job Overview

The role of the Purchase Manager entails overseeing procurement processes for raw minerals, mining equipment, spare parts, and contracted services to ensure smooth operations in mining and processing units. This involves developing vendor relationships, optimizing costs, adhering to industry standards, and guaranteeing uninterrupted supply to meet production demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Strategy Development: Create and execute tailored procurement strategies to meet the unique needs of the minerals and mining industry.
  • Vendor Sourcing and Contract Negotiation: Source, negotiate, and finalize contracts for essential mining-related supplies.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers to ensure timely delivery of supplies.
  • Cost Optimization: Monitor market trends, commodity prices, and logistics costs to achieve significant cost savings.
  • Inventory Planning: Coordinate with operations and warehouse teams to ensure effective inventory management.
  • Supplier Evaluation: Assess supplier performance based on quality, reliability, pricing, and delivery timelines.
  • Compliance: Ensure all purchases adhere to statutory requirements, safety norms, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications & Skills

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Mining Engineering, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Experience: 7–10 years of procurement experience, with at least 4–5 years in the minerals/mining sector.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of mining equipment, spare parts, raw materials, and international trade regulations.
  • Skillset: Excellent negotiation, vendor management, and contract drafting skills, as well as proficiency in ERP systems, inventory management, and MS Office.
  • Aptitudes: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership abilities, with familiarity with safety, statutory compliance, and sustainability practices in mining.
