Mortgage Underwriter Job Description

The primary objective of this role is to scrutinize loan applications, ensuring they meet the necessary criteria for approval. This entails examining credit reports, property valuations, and borrower income sources to make informed decisions.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze loan applications against investor guidelines.
  • Review credit reports, property appraisals, and borrower income sources to ensure compliance.
  • Calculate debt-to-income ratios and verify adherence to lending regulations.
  • Evaluate loan acceptability and enter relevant data into quality control systems.
  • Conduct high-cost, APR, amount financed, and state predatory tests within compliance review systems.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 1-5 years' experience in mortgage underwriting, processing, and/or quality control.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Familiarity with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, and VA lending is essential.
  • Possession of TRID knowledge and ability to maintain a consistent schedule for training and mentoring are highly desirable skills.
