Job Purpose

- Revenue generation and management of cost of sales for the Academic vertical
- Creation and Tracking of Sales and Collections: Budget & Achievement (variance if any to be tracked)
- Development and execution of Sales Plan in alignment with the CUP&A India and Vertical&aposs (Including promotions and reach agenda) in alignment with the CUP&A India
- Develop and support sales function effectively and ensuring sales capability building for the vertical in India
- Explore new business models / new business opportunities keeping pace with the changing market dynamics.
- Bring market insights to the product team to curate right offerings and solution for the customer
- Strategic Account Management

Key Responsibilities:

- Sales & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute region-specific sales strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets across product segments of books, journals and coursewares.
- Drive adoptions of textbooks, courseware, and digital products through strong engagement with faculty, decision-makers, and government bodies.
- Identify new business opportunities including B2B partnerships and bulk licensing deals.
- Identify cross selling opportunities for other vertical products
- Market Development & Outreach
- Build and strengthen long-term relationships with key institutions, universities, distributors, and educators.
- Lead academic engagement initiatives like workshops, conferences, webinars, and book launches in collaboration with the editorial and marketing teams.
- Map and activate underpenetrated territories and institutions and identify Institution potential
- Team Leadership
- Lead and manage a team of 4-5 members
- Coach team members through regular performance reviews, pipeline tracking, and field visits.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and academic integrity.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Coordinate with editorial and product teams to align market needs with upcoming titles.
- Work closely with marketing to support targeted campaigns and local visibility.
- Provide on-ground insights for product feedback, competition tracking, and future publishing directions
- Operational Management
- Maintain accurate forecasts, sales reports, and CRM hygiene.
- Monitor collections and ensure credit control is maintained across all partners.
- Ensure compliance with pricing, discount policies, and contractual agreements.

Key Skills & Competencies:

- Proven ability to manage complex sales cycles in the publishing or higher education sector.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strategic thinker with hands-on execution ability.
- Strong understanding of the academic and institutional ecosystem.
- Proficient in MS Excel, CRM platforms, and digital sales tools.
- Willingness to travel extensively within the region.
- Must have good track record of managing annual sales budgets and collections.
- Should have sales management experience in Academic / EdTech Market in India
- Experience of working in a matrix organization will be an advantage.
- Should have an ability to manage sales, teams.
- A track record of fueling business growth will be an added advantage
- Sound Business Acumen and problem-solving abilities
- Should have planning and execution capabilities
- Should have good business presentation and negotiation skill
- Positive thinker and can work on deadlines
- Should be collaborative

Qualifications & Experience:

- Graduate or Postgraduate in Business, Education, or related field.
- 12+ years of experience in educational publishing, academic sales or edtech
- Experience working with academic institutions, universities, or state bodies is highly desirable.

Preferred:

- Knowledge of NEP 2020 implementation, syllabus adoption, digital learning solutions, and library procurement models.
- Exposure to international publishing practices
