A "development head" in the sheet metal industry refers to a leadership role focused on new product development (NPD), process innovation, and strategic growth within the company, overseeing the creation of new sheet metal products, components, or fabrication techniques. This position involves a deep understanding of sheet metal processes, managing cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement to meet market demands and stay competitive, often requiring strong engineering backgrounds and project management skills. Key Responsibilities

  • Product Development: Overseeing the design, engineering, and prototyping of new sheet metal products and components to meet customer specifications and market trends.
  • Process Innovation: Developing and implementing new manufacturing processes, tools, and equipment to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality in sheet metal fabrication.
  • Team Leadership: Managing and motivating engineering and production teams, fostering collaboration with other departments (like design, engineering, and project management) to ensure cohesive product development.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring that new products and processes meet strict quality standards and regulatory requirements, working to reduce defects and improve overall product performance.
  • Strategic Planning: Contributing to the development of long-term strategies for growth, identifying market opportunities, and staying abreast of the latest technological advancements and best practices in the sheet metal industry.
  • Project Management: Planning, executing, and monitoring multiple development projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and deliver the desired outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is often a prerequisite.
  • Experience: Significant experience in the sheet metal industry, with a proven track record in areas like production, design, and engineering.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, tooling development, and design software like AutoForm is valuable.
  • Leadership & Communication: Excellent leadership, team management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are crucial for coordinating cross-functional teams and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Business Acumen: An understanding of market dynamics, cost analysis, and supply chain logistics to optimize product development and manufacturing strategies.
