Job Purpose:The Head of Internal Control Function within Group Operations plays a pivotal role in enhancing Operations Governance, Risk & Control (GRC) by proactively and effectively implementing frameworks across various operational units of the Group Operations.The role (1.5) serves as a conduit for Lines of Defense (LOD) 1, with 2 & 3, ensuring a deep value add and partnership with units while driving a culture of risk awareness and control effectiveness.

Key Result Area:Comprehensive GRC Reviews:Lead the planning, execution, and reporting of GRC reviews across various Operations units.

Ensure the composition and methodology of reviews align with the scope and objectives, fostering partnership with business units as a 1.5 LOD.

Risk Highlighting and Reporting:Identify and communicate risks, issues, and areas of concern effectively in GRC reporting.

Collaborate with stakeholders to address identified risks and implement remediation measures.

Audit Action Planning: Comprehensive GRC Reviews:Lead the planning, execution, and reporting of GRC reviews across various Operations units.

Audit Action Planning:Extract relevant insights from audit reports and drive structured action plans within Group Operations.

Ensure timely and effective implementation of audit recommendations.

Deployment and Management of GRC Frameworks:Proactively manage the understanding and tailored deployment of: Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Ops Risk Event (ORE) reporting, System Access Controls, BCP, Data Privacy and other Enterprise Risk Management & Compliance requirements within Group Operations.

Work closely with stakeholders to address operational needs and enhance control effectiveness.

Thematic Risk & Control Management:Identify and address thematic and systemic risk and control issues/opportunities across Group Operations.

Implement proactive measures to mitigate emerging risks and enhance control frameworks.

Data-Driven Approach:Establish a data-driven approach in GRC reviews, leveraging analytics and insights for risk identification and decision-making.Automation of Reporting:Lead efforts to automate risk council documents and reporting processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in GRC reporting.Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries, Working Relationships

Multi-locations, multi-cultural, multi timeframe and distributed work force involving financial and non-financial processes across HO UAE, India, Egypt, Pakistan & IBG Locations

Must understand different business units within OperationsProblem SolvingManage problems relating to product, process, technology and policy as well as cross- functional environment across Operations.Address unstructured and complex issues relating to process design, operational controls/ compliance, and risk management.Provide effective & efficient solutions for improving controls in a high-risk environment.

Decision Making Authority & Responsibility

Responsible for improving the level of Internal Control across Group Operations Units, through effective design, deployment & management of Internal Control Frameworks & systems.Responsible for design and deployment of Internal Control Framework for Operations Group, ensuring full alignment with Mashreq Policies & FrameworksHas the authority to recommend process and technology changes to reduce risk and build mitigating controls across Operations Group Units.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge:In-depth understanding of GRC frameworks, methodologies, and regulatory requirements within the banking industry.Knowledge of operational functions such as Payments, Trade Finance, Cards, Treasury, Retail, Corporate & Investment Banking, Compliance, and Insurance.Skills:Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and stakeholder management & influencing abilities.Project management skills with the ability to drive initiatives to completion.Proficiency in data analysis and utilization of technology for automation.Experience:Postgraduate with 15+ years of diversified experience in Banking sector, including internal control, risk management, or audit roles.

Proven track record of leading GRC initiatives and driving process improvements. Experience in collaborating across multiple lines of defense and fostering a culture of risk awareness.

Prior experience in managing teams and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
