Business Continuity Specialist

The Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring an organization's ability to withstand and recover from disruptive events, ranging from natural disasters to cyberattacks. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining business continuity and disaster recovery plans to safeguard critical operations, data, and technology infrastructure. The specialist collaborates with various teams to assess risks, design resilience strategies, and facilitate effective response and recovery measures.
The Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Specialist monitors the Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery planning functions. Further, the Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Specialist monitors the strategic business objectives and plans in support of departmental and company strategic goals.
Tasks and Responsibilities
• Assist with the developing, establishing, and maintaining the HGS Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery program to include governance, business continuity, and disaster recovery and testing
• Assist with the support in partnering with HGS IT and business teams to create and develop Disaster Recovery plans to eliminate and reduce identified gaps
• Assist with the review of new and existing applications to ensure current RTO and RPO are met with IT
• Assist in tracking and reporting the development and maintenance of business and technology recovery plans in partnership with HGS business management teams and subject matter experts (SME)
• Assist in documenting, training, and awareness to the HGS business and IT teams addressing business continuity roles, actions and responsibilities
• Assist with the designing, planning, organizing, and conducting controlled exercises/tests on all plans and critical applications
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science or similar degree
4 to 6 years of experience
Preference:
Professional certifications such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer (CDRE) are advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other (KSAOs)
• Requires oral and written communication skills, people skills, presentation skills, facilitation skills, and the ability to navigate complex organizational structures
• Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work well independently
• Experience with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery fundamentals (BCI or DRI) to include BIA (Business Impact Analysis), and BCP metrics - RTO (Recovery Time Objective), RPO (Recovery Point Objective), tabletop testing exercises, real plans testing experience
• Ability to manage changing workloads while maintaining a sense of priorities and delivering quality service within required timeframes
• Experience with Office 365 suite of products
• Teamwork skills to work with peers on policy and strategic issue
