We have an ambitious growth agenda and are rapidly growing our team across UK, Europe, US and APAC. We are seeking talented and highly skilled Director-level consultants to join our team and support us to expand our impact in the Private Equity (PE) sector. You will be working closely with Alysian leaders, PE Operating Partners, and the CIOs/IT Leadership teams at portfolio companies to execute transformative IT-enabled value creation strategies.
CONTEXT ON ROLE
We are seeking an AI Architect to lead AI strategy, design, and implementation for our global PE clients and their portfolio companies. This role focuses on AI-driven value creation, spanning due diligence through post-merger integration, to accelerate growth, drive operational efficiency, and foster innovation.
The ideal candidate will not only bring deep technical expertise but also demonstrate the ability to operate at a rapid pace (days, not weeks), working effectively with incomplete information and using intelligence and experience to fill gaps and make informed judgement calls. They will take full ownership of deliverables, ensuring they provide the greatest value to the client—even if that means challenging existing assumptions and pushing for more impactful solutions.
The role requires the versatility to work with a range of stakeholders—from team leads to executives—quickly extracting the right information and presenting it with the style, clarity, and gravitas required for senior audiences. Beyond project delivery, this individual will have a passion for building reusable assets and improving operating efficiencies within their area of expertise, contributing to Alysian's long-term capabilities.
QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Recognized degree from leading international universities, with a Post-Graduate degree or Professional Certifications
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 10 years at a top-tier consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) highly desirable.
- 10+ years in AI, data science, and analytics, with exposure to M&A or transformation programs.
- Proven experience in designing and delivering AI solutions at enterprise scale.
- Strong knowledge of ML frameworks, cloud AI platforms, and data engineering.
- Track record in AI governance, ethics, and compliance.
- Experience in PE-backed companies or direct work with PE funds is a plus.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with CIOs, CDOs, PE Operating Partners, and portfolio leadership to assess AI maturity, identify high-value use cases, and design target-state AI architectures
- Lead enterprise-scale AI deployments across diverse industries
- Apply rapid, agile problem-solving and informed decision-making to drive projects forward with speed and precision
- Challenge client perspectives constructively, aligning solutions with maximum business impact
- Translate technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives for executive-level stakeholders
- Contribute to building Alysian's proprietary AI assets and operational best practices
- Consistently seeks and drives solutions that deliver value aligned with Private Equity expectations — recognizing that these priorities may differ from long-term business goals, as PE ownership may focus on rapid, short-term improvements that enhance sale value
- Comfortable challenging established thinking and influencing stakeholders at all levels by presenting alternative solutions supported with robust financial, operational, and technical justifications
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. AI Due Diligence & Value Identification
- Evaluate AI and data capabilities of target companies during M&A.
- Identify high-impact AI use cases aligned with the investment thesis.
- Assess data quality, governance, and infrastructure readiness for AI deployment.
2. AI Architecture & Solution Design
- Define enterprise AI architectures, including ML pipelines, data platforms, and integration strategies.
- Recommend platforms and tools (e.g., Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, Databricks, TensorFlow, OpenAI APIs) based on business needs.
- Ensure scalability, security, and compliance in AI solution design.
3. AI Transformation Execution
- Lead AI proof-of-concepts and scale-up programs in portfolio companies.
- Drive integration of AI solutions with core business applications (CRM, ERP, customer analytics, operations).
- Manage change adoption, training, and performance measurement for AI initiatives.
4. Data & Governance Leadership
- Establish AI and data governance frameworks, ensuring ethical AI usage.
- Ensure compliance with global data regulations (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
5. Post-Merger AI Integration
- Align AI and analytics platforms post-acquisition to create unified capabilities.
- Build centralised AI Centres of Excellence for portfolio-wide leverage.
6. Cost & Vendor Optimization
- Lead vendor selection and contract negotiation for AI tools and platforms.
- Optimize AI infrastructure costs while maintaining performance.
7. Stakeholder Management
- Present AI strategy, progress, and ROI to investors and executive leadership.
- Partner with finance, operations, and technology teams to align AI with business priorities.
REQUIREMENTS
Good to have Private Equity expertise
- Experience in large or mid-cap PEs either as an investment or operating professional, consultant in the PE sector or role in a PE-backed company.
- Experience in large-cap PE houses e.g. Blackstone, Carlyle, Warburg, CVC, EQT, KKR would be a strong asset.
