Job Description – Purchase Manager for one of our clients based in Hadapsar

Position: Purchase Manager

Department: Purchase & Supply Chain

Reporting To: Head – Operations / Director

Location: Pune, India

Role Overview

The Purchase Manager is responsible for developing and implementing effective procurement strategies to ensure timely availability of quality materials, equipment, and services at competitive costs. The role requires vendor management, negotiation, cost control, and aligning purchases with production requirements to support smooth operations and project execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Vendor Management


• Develop and implement procurement policies and strategies.


• Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable suppliers/vendors.


• Negotiate prices, terms, and contracts to optimize cost and quality.


• Maintain strong supplier relationships and resolve disputes.

2. Material Planning & Cost Control


• Plan and forecast material requirements in line with project and production schedules.


• Ensure timely procurement to avoid delays in manufacturing and project delivery.


• Monitor purchase budgets and work towards cost reduction without compromising quality.

3. Process & Compliance


• Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and quality standards.


• Maintain accurate procurement records, purchase orders, and contracts.


• Implement ERP/software tools for purchase tracking and reporting.

4. Team Collaboration & Coordination


• Coordinate with Design, Production, and Project teams to understand requirements.


• Work with Finance to ensure timely payments and cost monitoring.


• Collaborate with Stores/Inventory team for stock optimization.

5. Reporting & Analysis


• Provide periodic reports on procurement performance, vendor ratings, and cost savings.


• Analyze market trends, price fluctuations, and suggest strategies accordingly.

Qualifications & Experience


• Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Supply Chain / Commerce (MBA preferred).


• 7–12 years of experience in procurement, preferably in engineering or manufacturing industries.


• Proven track record in vendor development, cost control, and purchase strategy.
