ISS STOXX seeks an experienced Biodiversity Lead to join the Global ESG Research team's Natural Capital Institute division in Mumbai.

Overview:

We are seeking a Biodiversity lead to join our newly created Natural Capital Institute, within ISS STOXX ESG research. The Institute’s objective is to develop and execute a comprehensive and cohesive strategy for natural capital research and to produce cutting-edge, decision-useful insights, data, and tools to help our institutional investor clients manage nature-related risks and capitalize on opportunities. This effort will encompass thought leadership, front-office client engagements, strategic collaborations, and methodological innovations across ISS STOXX products and solutions. The work of the Institute is divided into three pillars: Biodiversity, Land Transformation, and Freshwater and Oceans.

As a member of the Natural Capital Institute specializing in biodiversity, the candidate will play a crucial role in expanding our understanding of how biodiversity affects portfolio companies across their value chain, and how these considerations can enhance the investment decision-making processes. 

Responsibilities:

Research and analysis:

Drive the biodiversity research agenda for the Natural Capital Institute, focusing on risks, impacts, interdependencies, and opportunities for the investment community.

Track and monitor different biodiversity frameworks, standards, guidelines, industry initiatives, and emerging data and solutions from our competitors and other key stakeholders.

Develop thought leadership and insights pieces on the topic of biodiversity leveraging ESG data and analytics. This will include extensive primary and secondary research.

Contribute to methodological developments related to biodiversity, across asset classes.

Stakeholder engagement:

Participate in client meetings and conferences as a subject matter expert on biodiversity.

Support relationship-building with clients and prospects, academic institutions, experts, and industry leaders to help elevate our brand and inform insights, case studies, and new perspectives on the subject matter.

Internal collaboration and coordination:

Support the Nature Modeling Data and Products teams in integrating natural capital - and biodiversity in particular - across the different product and solution offerings.

Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategic projects and identify new opportunity areas.

Contribute to an engaging, positive, and collaborative working environment.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in the relevant field such as environmental science or sustainability with a focus on nature and/or biodiversity.

Knowledge of financial markets, investment management, and/or sustainable finance is preferable.

Excellent English language skills, both written and oral.

Strong research and analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first attitude.

Willingness to work with a highly collaborative, flexible, and innovative team across different locations.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, to prioritize tasks, and to meet deadlines.

Have a can-do attitude and a self-driven work ethic.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
