Optum AI is UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise AI team. We are AI/ML scientists and engineers with deep expertise in AI/ML engineering for health care. We develop AI/ML solutions for the highest impact opportunities across UnitedHealth Group businesses including UnitedHealthcare, Optum Financial, Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx. In addition to transforming the health care journey through responsible AI/ML innovation, our charter also includes developing and supporting an enterprise AI/ML development platform.

In some cases, this includes the opportunity to file patents and publish papers about the methods we develop. We also collaborate with AI/ML researchers at some of the world’s top universities.


Primary Responsibilities:

Trusted partner of the technical leadership of an organization, typically at the Director levelKey influencer in planning strategy and bring in business and industry context to technology decisionsArchitecture should be exemplary in terms of efficiency, stability, extensibility, and the ability to evolve over time. Simplify processes and technologiesSoftware is robust in the presence of failures, scalable, and cost-effectiveCoding practices are exemplary in terms of code organization, clarity, simplicity, error handling, and documentationDecompose complex problems into straightforward solutionsFlexible, adapting to meet the needs of the team, project, or productSolicit differing views and are willing to change your mind as you learn moreAs a “hands-on” technical leader, split your time between coding, design, and architecture based on where the greatest impact (or in response to job requirements)Amplify impact by leading design reviews for complex software projects and/or critical featuresProbe assumptions, illuminate pitfalls, and foster shared understandingAlign teams toward coherent architectural strategiesEducate, keeping the engineering community up to date on advanced technical issues, technologies, and trendsComply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field11+ years of experience in building SOA style applications in the cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP) 6+ years of hands-on experience working on large scale Java projects with specific focus on micro services, Spring Boot, or spark scala projects3+ years of experience in working cloud environments - Azure, AWS, GCP2+ years of hands-on experience as a principal-level software engineerExperience working in a complex, service-oriented service developmentExperience in working with engineering leadersKnowledge on technology stack like Java (Spring Boot), REST apis, PythonGood knowledge on cloud related infra, security and networking aspectsProven track record of leading application or platform security framework for large-scale, multi-cloud platformsProven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, high-quality systemsProven exceptional communication skillsProven excellent problem-solving skillsProven to be highly organized individual

Preferred Qualification:

Experience using terraform or other CI/CD IaaC
