Job Title: UK Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Product, AI & Process Excellence
Work Details
- Shift: UK Shift
- Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in UK Payroll
- Location: Remote
- Salary: ₹7–10 LPA
- Communication: Only candidates with excellent communication skills will be considered – this is non-negotiable.
About the Role
We are seeking a UK Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME) who lives and breathes payroll — a professional who not only understands calculations, legislation, and compliance, but can also translate payroll expertise into product innovation and intelligent process design.
This strategic role blends deep payroll knowledge with AI-driven research, UI/UX awareness, and testing excellence to help design, validate, and enhance payroll software that truly stands out in terms of functionality and user experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the go-to expert for UK PAYE, National Insurance, pensions (Nest, Smart, Aviva, etc.), statutory pay (SMP, SPP, SAP, SSP), and RTI submissions.
- Collaborate with product and development teams to design and test payroll features, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and user-friendliness.
- Review process flows to identify and implement automation opportunities in payroll and pension operations.
- Use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gamma, Notion AI) for research, legislative tracking, documentation, and summarization.
- Prepare and review test cases, regression scenarios, and payroll validation reports before releases.
- Work closely with UI/UX teams to ensure payroll dashboards and workflows are intuitive and aligned with user needs.
- Deliver product walkthroughs, client demos, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions on payroll updates and functionalities.
- Stay updated with HMRC, TPR, and pension provider changes to ensure complete compliance.
- Document business requirements, user stories, and feature logic for ongoing payroll enhancements.
What We're Looking For
- Strong expertise in UK Payroll – including end-to-end processing, statutory payments, pensions, and RTI submissions.
- Deep understanding of payroll software functionality and compliance standards.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills – ability to explain payroll logic to both technical and non-technical teams.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools for automation, research, and process improvement.
- Basic knowledge of UI/UX principles with attention to user experience in payroll systems.
- Strong testing and analytical mindset with attention to detail and quality assurance.
- Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively across functions and departments.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to ₹1,000,000.00 per year
Application Question(s):
- How many years of hands-on experience do you have in UK Payroll processing, including PAYE, NI, pensions, and RTI submissions?
- Can you explain your experience working with UK payroll software and ensuring compliance with HMRC and TPR regulations?
- Have you ever used AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Notion AI, Gamma) for payroll research, documentation, or process improvement?
- This role requires excellent communication skills and collaboration with product and technical teams. Can you share an example of how you've explained a complex payroll concept to a non-payroll audience?
