Job Summary:

We are seeking a mid-level Packaging R&D Specialist to join our dynamic Nutraceutical R&D team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in driving packaging innovation and development for our new and existing nutraceutical, dietary supplement, and health food product portfolio.

This role requires a strong understanding of packaging materials, technologies, and regulatory requirements specific to the health and wellness industry.

Role & responsibilities

• New Product Development (NPD) Support:

Lead the research, development, and selection of primary and secondary packaging materials and designs for new nutraceuticals (capsules, Tablets, Powders, Gels, shots, etc.) and health food products.

Collaborate closely with product development, manufacturing, marketing, external vendors and supply chain teams to integrate packaging solutions from concept to commercialization.

• Packaging Material Expertise:

Identify and evaluate innovative and sustainable packaging materials (e.g., plastics, glass, foils, compostable materials, etc.) that meet product protection, shelf-life, and consumer appeal & convenience requirements.

Conduct feasibility studies and performance testing (e.g., transit,

tamper-evidence, etc.) for packaging components.

• Vendor Management & Sourcing:

Work with external packaging suppliers and manufacturers to source new materials, prototypes, and ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.

Evaluate vendor capabilities and maintain strong supplier relationships.

Keeping a tab on latest Global Packaging Developments/Innovations. Regularly scan relevant packaging formats and technology for both direct and indirect competition.

• Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:

Ensure all packaging designs and materials comply with relevant national and international regulations (e.g., FSSAI, GMP) for nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, and foods.

Develop and maintain packaging specifications, testing protocols, and quality standards.

• Process Optimization & Cost Reduction:

Identify opportunities for packaging optimization, standardization, and cost reduction without compromising product integrity or quality.

Participate in root cause analysis for packaging-related issues and implement corrective actions.

• Sustainability Initiatives:

Drive and support sustainable packaging initiatives, exploring eco-friendly materials and designs to reduce environmental impact.

• Technical Documentation:

Prepare detailed technical documentation, specifications, test reports, and validation protocols for all packaging components.

Preferred candidate profile

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Packaging Science or P.G. Diploma In Packaging development From IIP/SIES or Similar Institute.

Experience:

8-15 years of progressive experience in Packaging R&D or Packaging Engineering, specifically within the Nutraceutical, Dietary Supplements, Health Foods, or FMCG (Health & Wellness focus) industries.

Proven experience in leading packaging projects from conceptualization to commercial launch.

Strong understanding of various packaging materials (e.g., HDPE, PET, glass, aluminum, flexible laminates, paperboard, etc.) and their applications in moisture/oxygen sensitive products.

• Skills:

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Knowledge of packaging machinery and manufacturing processes in

Nutraceuticals & supplements.

Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for nutraceuticals/food supplements in major markets.

Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
