Junior Accountant Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This entry-to-mid-level role is ideal for an individual with 6 months to 3 years of hands-on experience in general accounting, looking to grow their career in a supportive and challenging environment. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the senior accounting staff in day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with established accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping & Record Keeping:
  • Assist in maintaining the general ledger, performing journal entries, and reconciling bank and credit card statements.
  • Process and record accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions accurately and timely.
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash and employee expense reports.
  • Month-End/Year-End Support:
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
  • Support the month-end closing procedures, ensuring all entries are posted and accounts are reconciled.
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting:
  • Assist in budget tracking and variance analysis under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules and analysis for financial audits.
  • Compliance & Administration:
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and company policies.
  • Assist with tax computations and filing preparation (e.g., GST/VAT, payroll tax), as needed.
  • Organize and maintain financial documents and records both physically and digitally.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience: 6 months to 3 years of practical experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
  • Familiarity with at least one major accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Tally, etc.).
  • Core Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS).
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Progress toward a professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA).
