Qualification:

ME (Industrial Safety Engineering)

Certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour, NEBOSH, CSP, CIH) are highly desirable.

Prescribed under Tamil Nadu Factories (Safety officer ) rules 2005  

Experience:

Minimum 79 years in a safety role (Manufacturing).

Proven experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety training

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, ISO standards).

Proficiency in safety management software (e.g., Intelex, Safetymint).

Understanding of industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and hazardous materials management

Soft Skills:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.    

Attention to detail and analytical thinking.  

Ability to influence and enforce safety protocols diplomatically

Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure

Key Responsibilities:

Policy & Program Implementation:

Develop, implement, and enforce company safety policies and procedures in line with OSHA, ISO 45001, and other regulatory standards.  

Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Control:

Perform risk assessments for workplaces, equipment, and processes.  

Recommend corrective actions to eliminate or mitigate hazards (e.g., engineering controls, PPE, administrative changes).

Incident Investigation & Reporting:

Lead investigations of accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.  

Prepare detailed incident reports with root cause analysis and preventive measures.  

Maintain accurate records of all safety incidents and actions taken.

Training & Awareness:

Design and deliver safety training programs (e.g., fire safety, emergency response, PPE usage, hazardous materials handling).

Promote a culture of safety through toolbox talks, posters, and safety campaigns

Emergency Preparedness:

Develop and test emergency response plans (e.g., fire, chemical spills, natural disasters).

Coordinate emergency drills and ensure readiness of safety equipment (fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first-aid kits).     

Regulatory Compliance:

Stay updated on safety regulations and ensure company adherence.      

Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections or audits

Maintain safety documentation (permits, certifications, training records

Safety Committee Collaboration:

Support or lead the workplace safety committee.

Engage employees in safety initiatives and encourage reporting of concerns.    

Data Analysis & Reporting:

Track safety performance metrics (e.g., LTIFR, TRIR

Prepare monthly/quarterly safety reports for management.
