We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team and play a critical role in managing, optimizing, and securing our large-scale data platforms.

This is an immediate joiner opportunity for seasoned professionals who thrive in fast-paced, enterprise-grade environments and who can handle highly complex data environments with terabytes (TBs) of data.

Position Overview

The Senior DBA will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end database administration, design, performance tuning, and optimization in cloud-based SQL Server environments (preferably Azure). The role demands 15+ years of extensive experience, with strong leadership in database performance management, standards definition, and governance. Prior experience in Healthcare IT will be considered a strong advantage.

The individual will also mentor and coach the development team on database best practices while ensuring high levels of data integrity, security, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Performance Tuning

• Manage and administer large-scale databases (TB-level datasets) in SQL Server environments.
• Perform advanced performance tuning, optimization, and query performance reviews.
• Identify and resolve complex performance bottlenecks in queries, indexes, and stored procedures.
• Conduct capacity planning, backup/recovery strategy design, and disaster recovery implementation.

Standards & Governance

• Own and maintain the Database Standards Document, consolidating changes across the board.
• Define, implement, and enforce data modeling and database development standards.
• Establish coding practices for queries, stored procedures, and ETL pipelines.

Code Review & Team Coaching

• Perform detailed database code reviews for development teams.
• Mentor, coach, and guide developers to write efficient and scalable SQL code.
• Lead by example in enforcing best practices in query optimization and database programming.

Data Modeling & Architecture

• Architect and manage enterprise-level data models aligned with business and project needs.
• Provide guidance on normalization, indexing strategies, partitioning, and clustering.
• Support data migration initiatives and integration projects with proper schema design.

Cloud Database Management (Azure Preferred)

• Manage SQL Server databases hosted in Azure Cloud environments.
• Monitor and optimize Azure SQL Database performance, cost, and scalability.
• Leverage Azure services like Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage, Azure Monitor, and Azure Backup.
• Exposure to hybrid cloud deployments is a strong plus.

Healthcare Domain (Preferred)

• Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific standards (HIPAA, PHI/PII data security).
• Work on clinical, provider, and member-related datasets.
• Support healthcare applications requiring high data quality, auditing, and regulatory compliance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional experience in SQL Server database administration and programming.
• Expertise in administering terabyte-level datasets, optimizing query performance, and handling mission-critical systems.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server (T-SQL, stored procedures, triggers, indexing, partitioning, query plans).
• Excellent knowledge of database programming, schema design, normalization, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
• Proven experience with data modeling standards and governance frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Azure SQL, Azure Cloud Services, and hybrid cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of backup/recovery, HA/DR (Always On, clustering, replication, log shipping).
• Experience in mentoring and coaching development teams on SQL/database best practices.
• Proficiency in database monitoring tools (SQL Profiler, Query Store, Redgate, SolarWinds, etc.).
• Healthcare domain experience strongly preferred.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to other cloud environments such as AWS RDS/Redshift (good to have).
• Knowledge of data engineering concepts and integration with ETL pipelines.
• Familiarity with big data frameworks is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
