Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on developing, maintaining, and modernizing applications built with Postgres4GL . This role requires a strong technical foundation in relational databases, legacy 4GL programming, and team leadership. You will drive engineering excellence, manage project timelines, mentor engineers, and collaborate across departments to ensure the success of mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership : Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of applications using Postgres4GL and PostgreSQL technologies.
  • Team Management : Manage, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers and database developers.
  • Project Management : Define and track project goals, deliverables, schedules, and resource allocation.
  • Modernization Initiatives : Lead initiatives to refactor or migrate legacy 4GL systems to modern architectures when necessary.
  • Best Practices : Establish and enforce engineering best practices around coding standards, version control, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and other Engineering teams to deliver high-quality software on time.
  • Performance Optimization : Guide database tuning, query optimization, and application performance improvements.
  • Risk Management : Identify technical risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Stakeholder Communication : Act as a technical point of contact for internal stakeholders, providing clear updates on project status and challenges.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, including significant work with PostgreSQL or 4GL programming environments.
  • 2+ years of experience in a management or technical leadership role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with relational database systems, especially PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with 4GL languages or Postgres4GL specifically (or similar environments like Informix 4GL, Progress 4GL).
  • Familiarity with database migration, data modeling, and legacy modernization.
  • Excellent communication, people management, and problem-solving skills.
