Role Summary:
Reporting to the APAC Head of Payroll Operations and working closely with the rest of the Alvarez & Marsal Global Payroll Team as well as HR, Benefits, Finance, and the Business, the successful candidate will play a fundamental role in our global payroll operations. As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for both end-to-end payroll processing and supporting payroll implementation projects across India and selected APAC countries. You will help deliver accurate and timely payroll for approximately 2000+ employees and growing, while contributing to payroll system/process improvements across the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple APAC countries, including India, ensuring accuracy and compliance with country-specific statutory regulations.
- Prefer someone who can participate in payroll implementation projects, including system transitions, new country setups, vendor changes, and process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure that starters, leavers, leaves of absence, salary increases, bonuses, and transfers are processed accurately and on time, including preparation and submission of required employee data through flexi-forms and payroll provider portals.
- Accurately process Managing Director emoluments, including monthly draws, bonuses, benefits, deferred payments, loans, etc.
- Handle processing of various bonus payments such as guaranteed bonuses, sign-on bonuses, and annual bonuses.
- Obtain necessary approvals for manual payment requests and process manual payroll payments as required.
- Review payroll output reports and provider files prior to release of payment files; investigate and resolve any variances.
- Adhere to strict payroll cut-off deadlines with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with payroll providers to ensure legislative updates are implemented promptly and payroll processes are optimized.
- Maintain and validate time-off tracking information for payroll submission and address any discrepancies proactively.
- Manage employee registrations and de-registrations in accordance with local regulations.
- Prepare and process termination and redundancy payments as per country legislation and company policy.
- Reconcile all statutory deductions (tax, superannuation, provident fund, etc.) and ensure accurate and timely filings and payments.
- Ensure timely processing of manual payments and currency exchange rate updates for cross-border payrolls.
- Post payroll-related accounting entries and assist Finance in reconciling payroll GL accounts.
- Stay updated on payroll legislation and ensure compliance with internal policies.
- Serve as the first point of contact for income tax/statutory audits or inquiries in coordination with payroll providers.
- Address employee payroll queries professionally and promptly.
- Handle employee insurance registrations and submissions to insurers.
Requirements:
- Postgraduate qualification with a minimum of 8 years of experience in end-to-end payroll processing across multiple APAC countries.
- Strong operational knowledge of India payroll and working experience in at least a few of the following: Singapore, Australia, China, and other APAC countries.
- Solid understanding of relevant employment laws and payroll legislation across APAC.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a remote, regional team.
- Strong customer service focus, with a proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving.
- Highly organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage deadlines and evolving priorities.
- Advanced Excel skills are essential.
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments and across multiple time zones is preferred.
- Experience with Workday Human Capital Management, ERP payroll systems, and financial reporting tools is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ADP Celergo, ADP GlobalView, or other global payroll platforms is preferred.
- Quick learner with a strong desire to develop expertise in new systems and technologies.
- Prior involvement in payroll system implementation, transitions, or migrations is preferable.
